Dollshouse World Magazine #299

Revista Miniaturas nº 226 / Miniaturas Magazine. Issue 226

Nos vemos en Londres (Escritorio y mesas Hille) / See you in London (Hille desk and chairs)

As some of you already know next May I will be taking part of the Kensington Dollshouse Festival. This is the first time I am attending and I am truly happy. It is an opportunity to get to know some of you personally. Of course, there you will find many of the pieces that I have been presenting on the blog so far. I hope you enjoy them live as much as in the pictures.

These are pieces that require time and dedication for their elaboration, that is why they are limited series and my stocks are always reduced. Of course I also make them to order. Do not hesitate to contact me if you are interested in any pieces.

Indeed, inspired by my participation in the event in London, I made a replica of this desk that Robin Day designed in 1950 for the English firm Hille and the stackable chairs that he created with his wife, Lucienne. Robin and Lucienne Day were a couple of designers of great interest to me who created incredible pieces, bringing light to the postwar period in Britain. They tried to give importance to the functionality, the economy of materials and productive techniques. Obtaining pieces as interesting as these, known as Hille Desk and Hillestak chairs.

Like the original, the desk has a beech frame and the floating desktop and suspended drawers are made in walnut. The chairs are also constructed with a steam bent plywood seat and back veneered in walnut.

Aparador alto en teca / Teak cabinet

Hola,

As you already know lately I have been working on several pieces of furniture. One of them is this cabinet made in teak. I have based myself on some Nordic designs from the 50's, but without following any particular model. I think that the result is a simple and stylish piece that fits in mid-century environments as well as in more modern displays.

Hans Wegner is one of my favorite designers and I wanted to approach him through this coffee table that he created in 1949. It is a delicate piece that at 1:12 scale becomes almost ethereal. The legs remind us to natural elements like the branches of a tree. It is made in teak.

Despite it is clearly a mid-century piece it would also fit in more modern environments.

Aparador en abedul reciclado / Sideboard in recycled birch wood

I have never told you where I get the woods I work with from. Well, many of them are recycled from pieces of furniture at 1:1 scale that are not interesting anymore or have broken. This is what happened to me with a folding birch chair I had at home. After years of hard service, it broke up and could not be fixed. So my positive thought was, well, I now have birch wood for a few miniatures!

Incluyo fotos del proceso y del resultado final. Espero que os guste!

I include photos of the process and the final result. I hope you like it!

On this occasion I wanted to give winter some color. I present a sideboard made of plywood with walnut elements and areas painted in blue, creating a contrast that I found interesting.

Working with plywood at 1:12 scale has been a technical challenge and I am really satisfied with the result. I hope that you like it as much as I do.
